It is just her and I, at bedtime. Phone on silent. Stars projected on the ceiling. Her little voice in the dark — my favourite sound in the world.
Nothing outside these four walls matters much anymore.
I remember lying on her nursery floor with a small baby bump. On my side, eyes closed, trying to imagine her face. Now her bed lies where I laid. We tell stories there in the dark - about fairies flapping through the woods to find their family.
I have been building this world for her since before she arrived.
The mother in this painting is becoming transparent. As mothers do. Not disappearing — just changing hands.
