Some of the writers who’ve brought me the deepest connection come from Persian lineage—there’s a soft strength in the way they write, a poetic visual language that makes you feel fully immersed in the fragrances of food and rose gardens, the feelings of forbidden love. Through their stories and the weight of history they carry, I’ve come to deeply admire the warmth and richness of the culture, especially in poetry and writing. One word that’s stayed with me is joon—meaning “life” or “soul,” which is often used as a term of endearment. There’s something so loving about that - calling someone soul and acknowledging seeing the depth of their spirit.
