Reflecting a lot lately on what we’ve culturally lost since my childhood. I really miss when my aunt or close friends of my Mom would just knock on the door because they were passing through town; my Mom would turn on the kettle and I’d listen to them chat while hiding away around the corner on the stairs. I think my mom always knew I was there because she’d call me to join sometimes and I’d drink tea like a grownup, only with a spoon full of sugar mixed in.

We don’t do that anymore.

This piece reminds me that our reflections are just another perspective of ourselves. I feel like when looking back on the past, I am the water this time, not the branch. There’s some sentimental lens we look through. I miss the casual life of community that we now need to actively seek. I never realized we’d lose that.
